Before purchasing a firearm, you should know:

Purchase Requirements Summary

  • Age: Must meet federal and state minimum age laws

  • Valid identification: Government-issued photo ID

  • Background check: Completed at pickup through a licensed dealer (FFL)

  • FFL transfer: Firearms must be shipped to an FFL dealer for pickup

  • Legal eligibility: Buyer must be legally allowed to own a firearm under federal and state law

  • Waiting period: Firearm transfers are subject to a mandatory 72-hour waiting period after a background check is initiated and approved
